The First Generation

Pierre Ducote

Born 1691

 

 Born about 1691 in Flanders, Pierre was the patriarch of the Ducote family in Avoyelles and Louisiana.  He was the son of Francois "Ducoder" - one of many variants - and Catherine St. Paul.  It is unknown exactly when Pierre first arrived in Pointe Coupee but records show he was married to Antoinette, an Indian, who died at Pointe Coupee December 1, 1747.  There is no record of any children from this marriage.  On January 23, 1749 Pierre now 58, married Marie Magdeleine Cable age 33, born about 1716.  Marie was a native of Germany and the daughter of Lenard Cable and Catherine Wolf.  Of this marriage there were two children.
  1. Marie Magdeleine Ducote born at Pointe Coupee February 18, 1750.   At the age of 14, she marries Joseph Carmouche on August 21, 1764.  Joseph, about 22 at the time, was a native of Mobile and the son of Jean Baptiste Carmouche, a native of St. Laurent de Pont-a-Mousson, France and Anne Alexandre, a native of Mobile.
  2. Pierre Ducote II born September 4 1753.  He married at age 19, on February 15, 1773 Henriette Rabalais at Pointe Coupee.  Henriette was the daughter of Joseph Rabalais and Anne Barbe Boftz.

 

The Second Generation

Pierre Ducote II

 It is from this generation that all Ducotes from Avoyelles and Louisiana can trace their ancestry.  The name Ducote can be found no where else in colonial Louisiana.  Pierre II and Henriette Rabalais were in Avoyelles as early as 1783.  It is believed that their move from Pointe Coupee coincided with the move of Joseph Rabalais and family.  Pierre II was a carpenter which was quite useful and rare in colonial Avoyelles.  Pierre II and Henriette had eleven children.
  1. Pierre Ducote III born June 24, 1774.
  2. Joseph Ducote born 1776, baptized January 8,1777.  Married Clemence Mayeux born July 1783, daughter of Joseph Mayeux and Adrienne Bordelon.
  3. Hippolite Ducote born July 30, 1778.
  4. Jean Pierre Ducote born August 24, 1783.  Married Elise Laborde, daughter of Pierre Laborde and Modeste Lacour.
  5. Eloise Ducote ( also called Elise, Marie Louise )   married August 7, 1797 Jean Baptiste Lemoine II baptized March 11, 1776, son of Jean Baptiste Lemoine and Catherine Simon.
  6. Magdeleine Ducote born October 20, 1789.  Married Celestin Joffrion, son of Joseph Joffrion II and Francoise Bouchard.
  7. Henry Zenon Ducote married Claire Laborde on September 11, 1806.  She was the daughter of Pierre Laborde and Modeste Lacour.
  8. Celestin Augustin Ducote born April 29, 1792.  Married Constance Gagnard on November 17, 1810.  She was the daughter of Jacques Gagnard and Ursule Juneau.
  9. Seline (Celina) Ducote born December 28, 1794.   Married Jean Baptiste Juneau on October 5, 1814.  Jean was the son of Augustin Juneau and Marguerite Duplechin.
  10. Emelie Ducote born April 19, 1798 was married three times.   (1) Paul Duclere, (2) Pascal Didier, (3) Antoine Laborde.
  11. Vespasie Ducote born July 12, 1800.  Married April 20, 1825 Francois Bordelon son of Augustion Bordelon and Celeste Soileau.

 

The Third Generation

Joseph Ducote

Born 1776

 Of the marrage between Joseph Ducote and Clemence Mayeux born July 1783.  There were at least eight children of this marriage.  Clemence Mayeux was the doughter of Joseph Mayeux and Adrienne Bordelon. 
  1. Joseph Ducote II born at Avoyelles on April 18, 1802 married Marguerite Bordelon.  Marguerithe was the daughter of Valery Bordelon and Constance Joffrion.
  2. Marie Ducote born October 1803 at Avoyelles.  Married in 1823 Jean Baptiste Laborde born January 3, 1798.  He was the son of Pierre Laborde and Modeste Lacour.
  3. Zenon Ducote born March 1806 married August 8, 1826 Melanie Guillot born 1812.  Melanie, only 14 at the time of her marriage, was the daughter of Mathurin Guillot and Francoise Juneau.  They had at least three children by 1850.  (1)  Napoleon, born 1836. (2)  Hilaire, born 1839.  (3)  Revere, born 1843.
  4. Aimee born May 1808 married in 1823 Zenon Juneau.  Zenon born June 1805 was the son of Augustin Juneau and Marguerite Duplechin.
  5. Paulin Ducote born 1811 and married in 1832 Madeleine Guillot.  Madeleine was the daughter of Joseph Guillot and Magdeleine Laborde.  There were at least five children of this marriage.  (1)   Olive or Olivier born 1832.  (2)  Joseph N. born 1834.   (3)  Sainville born 1836. (4)  Edvise born 1838  (5)  Paulin born 1840.  Paulin married a 2nd time in 1848 Clementine Dauzat born 1831.  There were at least nine children of this marriage. (1)  Eloise born February 24, 1849. (2)  Leandre born February 25, 1852.  (3)  Ludger baptized 1854.  (4)  Ovide born October 7, 1857. (5)   Clementine born December 8, 1859.  (6)  Paulin Oneil born December 16, 1862.  (7)  Julia born August 13, 1866.   (8)  Eugene born March 7, 1869.  (9)   Euclide born March 7, 1869 was the twin brother of Eugene.
  6. Pierre Ducote born July 5, 1814 and married in 1832 Batilde Laborde.  They had at least five children. (1)   Valerine, born 1838.  (2)  Marcelline, born 1835.  (3)   Clementine, born 1841.  (4)  Elisa, born 1845.  (5)   Martin, born 1847.  Pierre married a 2nd time in 1854 Azelia Ducote widow of Joachim Mayeux.  Pierre married a 3rd time October 1862 ( during the Civil War ) Eugenie Gauthier who was the daughter of Joseph Gauthier and Melina Lemoine.  They had at least two children.  (1)   Octavie Militia, born September 9, 1863.  (2)  Marie Aldee, born October 18, 1864. 
  7. Armeline Ducote born October 2, 1815.

The Fourth Generation

Joseph Ducote II

Born 1802

 Joseph II was born at Avoyelles on April 18, 1802.   In 1822 he married Marguerite Bordelon born June 15, 1803.   Marguerite was the daughter of Valery Bordelon and Constance Joffrion.  Joseph II died before November 1856.  Marguerite died November 26, 1897.  There were at least eleven children of this marriage.
  1. Joseph Ducote III born November 30, 1823 died April 13, 1883.  Married Eliza Ducote born 1828.  They had at least twelve children.  (1)  Alcide, born 1843 married Celina Juneau.   (2)  Edmond, born 1845.  (3)   Cleophine, born 1847.  (4)  Cleophas, born 1849.  (5)   Joseph IV, born 1850.  (6)  Louise, born November 4, 1851.  (7)  Clementine, born September 10, 1853.  (8)   Jules, born 1854 (9)  Marguerite, born September 2, 1855. (10)  Felix Clovis, born May 18, 1857.  (11)   Marius, born 1858.  (12)  Marie Aglae, born July 27, 1859.
  2. Moise Ducote born February 29, 1825.   Married on February 29, 1848 on his 23rd birthday, Azema Lemoine, born 1832 at the age of 16.  Azema was the daughter of Azenor Lemoine and Octavine Scallan.  Of this marriage there was at least nine children.  (1)  Edgar, born 1849 married Lodoiska Roy.  (2)  Octavie, born 1851. (3)  Louis, born 1852.  (4)  Moise Landry, born September 20, 1853.  (5)  Lafille, born 1854.  (6)   Armas Eloi, born December 1, 1855 married January 18, 1883 Alicia Emma Ducote.   (7)  Oscar, born 1856. (8)  Irma, born October 2, 1858.  (9)  Louise, born 1859.
  3. Hypolite Ducote born February 23, 1827.  Married Eliza Rabalais.
  4. Sylvert Ducote born June 3, 1828 died September 14, 1906.  He married December 30, 1852 Elvire Callegari, born December 10, 1835 died December 12, 1927 ( the year of the high water )  she was the daughter of Jerome Callegari and Helene Scallan.  At least twelve children of this marriage.   (1)  Marguerite Helena, born October 12, 1854 died June 24, 1923.  She married on November 27, 1883 Ovide Mayeux, born August 12, 1852 died October 19, 1912.  He was the son of Augustin Mayeux and Marguerite Plauche.  (2)   Marie Arminthe, born November 29, 1856 died December 24, 1915.  A sad Christmas Eve.  (3)  Jerome Marius, born December 6, 1858 married Lizzie Greenwood on December 22, 1887.  (4)  Shelby, born December 17, 1860 died May 27, 1919.  Married January 30, 1883 Adele Cantonet.   Adele was born April 8, 1866 and died January 18, 1902. (5)   Rose, born January 16, 1863 ( during the Civil War ) died June 26, 1940.  Rose married on September 5, 1883 Louis F. Callegari, born December 20, 1860 died January 14, 1926.  (6)  Belford, born February 14, 1865 ( during the Civil War )  (7)  Clemil, born January 4, 1867 died December 30, 1886.  (8)  Laura, born August 4, 1869 died August 27, 1930.   Laura married October 29, 1907 Benicia F. Perea, born August 23, 1853 died June 24, 1917.  (9)  Herace, born August 4, 1869 twin of Laure.   Herace died September 13, 1869.  (10)  Lucille, born December 28, 1871 died July 15, 1936.  She married on December 29, 1897 Armand P. Thevenote, born November 1, 1872 died December 19, 1921.  (11)  Sheldon, born January 4, 1874 married on September 7, 1898 Azema Ducote, born May 8, 1877.  (12)   Samuel, born March 28, 1876 married November 12, 1902 Louise Armand, born July 21, 1878.

Jerome  Ducote born 1834 married Celina Decuir, born 1840.  They had at least five children.  (1)  James Horace, born July 8, 1857.  (2)  Alexandre Lucien, born March 5, 1859 died 1919.  He married February 12, 1878 Flora Edwards, born 1859 died 1939.   Flora was the daughter of William Edwards and Francoise Normand.  (3)   Louis Arthur, born July 10, 1861 ( during the Civil War )  (4)   Jerome Lee, born November 17, 1866.  ( could Jerome J. Ducote been away in the War between 1861 and 1866? )  (5)  Ferdinand Robert, born December 27, 1868.

Resaire Ducote born 1836 married Celestine Joffrion, born 1842 daughter of Joseph Jofrion and Diedame Rabalais.  Seven known children of this marriage.  (1)  Willy Edouard, born October 13, 1857.  (2)  Damien Abel, born June 16, 1859.  (3)   Marguerite Rosina, born December 18, 1860.  (4)  Emile Emmanuel, born April 5, 1862 ( during the Civil War )  (5)  Rose Eriphile, born April 6, 1864.  (6)  Victor Ferrier, born April 15, 1866.  (7)  Charles Louis, born November 20, 1871.
  8. Alphonse Ducote born May 11, 1839 died May 11, 1887.
  9. Louis J. Ducote born December 31, 1841 or 1842 died November 5, 1902 at Hydropolis, Louisiana.  Louis married Laura Edwards, born March 18, 1849 died April 23, 1940 was the daughter of William Edwards and Francoise Normand.  Of this marriage there were at least seven children.  (1)  Sarah S. born 1866.  (2)  Albert Sidney, born November 8, 1867.  (3)   Florence, born 1870.  (4)  William A. born March 7, 1871 died June 8, 1953.  Married October 24, 1893 Aminthe Couvillion, born 1876.  Aminthe died in 1939.  (5)  Lola, married Dr. Alcide Leigh.  Lola married a 2nd time  on January 24, 1945 J. Ludger Chatelain.  (6)  Ida, married on December 13, 1893, Horace Coco, son of Philogene Coco and Eugenie Bordelon.  Philogene Coco was the son of Dominique Coco Jr. and Zoe Juneau.  (7)  Eddie M. born August 6, 1889 died June 2, 1954.  Eddie married on December 15, 1908 Daisy Laborde.
  10. Avit Ducote born June 15, 1844 died May 6, 1876.  Married December 6, 1865 Rose (Rosalie) Gremillion, born December 1847 died November 1912.  Rose was the daughter of Jean Baptiste Gremilliion and Arsene Bordelon.  There were at least six children of this marriage.  (1)   Louise Isabelle, born August 6, 1866.  (2)  Laura Cornelia, born April 16, 1868.  (3)  Benjamin Clifton, born May 1, 1870.  (4)  Henrietta, born May 24, 1872.  (5)   Harriet, born 1875.  (6)  Bertha, born1875 married a Goudeau.

The Fifth Generation

Hypolite Ducote

Born 1827

 Hyplite Ducote born February 23, 1827 died June 23, 1910.   Hypolite married on December 18, 1849 Eliza Rabalais born 1835 daughter of Evariste Rabalais and Marie Decuir.  Eight children are known of this family.
  1. Ernest Ducote born 1851.
  2. Ernestine Ducote born January 15, 1852.
  3. Theophile Ducote born February 12, 1853.
  4. Leonard Ducote born December 30, 1855.
  5. Leopold Ducote born December 30, 1855 was the twin of Leonard.
  6. Joseph Albert Ducote April 22, 1858.
  7. Emile Ducote born 1860.
  8. Alicia Emma Ducote married on January 18, 1883 Armas Eloi Ducote son of Moise Ducote.  Of this marriage there were 5 children.   One son and four daughters.  The son died around the age of 12.   The four daughters remained in the Cottonport area.  Alicia Emma married a second time Edgar Charles Fuqua.  Of this marriage there were four children.  (1)  Estiene, married Ida Bonnette  (2)   Margaret, married Louis Juneau  (3)  Louella, married Sadie Bertrand of St. Martinsville  (4)  Isabelle, married Harrell R. Avit Ducote

 Avit Ducote married Denise Marie Mayeux ( Nan ) who was born December 25, 1894.  Nan died June 25, 1992 at the age of 97 at 8:40 PM at Bayou Chateau Nursing Center in Simmesport, LA.  Of this marriage there were only two children.
  1. Alvin John Ducote ( My Father ) born September 4, 1916.  Married Cora Marie Jeansonne.
  2. Yvonne Ducote married Allen Gauthier.

 

The Eight Generation

 Alvin John Ducote ( My Father ) born September 4, 1916 died August 17, 1983 at the Vetran's Hospital in Pineville, Louisiana of a Heart Attack.   Alvin married Cora Marie Jeansonne, a widow with two children.  Ray Mayeux and Harold Mayeux, my two half-brothers.  Of the marriage between Alvin and Cora there was only one son, me.
  1. Donald Joseph Ducote Sr. born June 18, 1955.  I married Mary Elizabeth Gremillion born March 13, 1956.

 

The Nineth Generation

 Donald Joseph Ducote Sr. born June 18, 1955 in Cottonport, Louisiana   and still kicking today, married Mary Elizabeth Gremilliion, born March 13, 1956 in Moreauville at the Beridon Clinic.  We were married May 31, 1974.  Mary is the daughter of Valerian F. Gremillion and Beryl A. Couvillion.  Of our marriage we had two children.
  1. Donald Joseph Ducote Jr. born November 30, 1974 married Jessica Juneau on February 26, 1999.
  2. Diane Ducote born August 19, 1978.   Diane married December 11, 1998  Brandon Mayeux from Red Fish, Louisiana, born November 3, 1977.  They have two daughters, (1)  Bree Nacole Mayeux, born August 5, 1998 at St. Francis Cabrini Hospital in Alexandria, Louisiana.  She's not married yet.  (2)  Carlee Elizabeth Mayeux, born June 7, 2000 at Opelousas General Hospital in Opelousas, Louisiana

Donald Joseph Ducote Jr.

Born 1974

 Donald Joseph Ducote Jr. was born November 30, 1974 at the Woman's Hospital in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.  He married Jessica Juneau born June 18, 1977.  Jessica is the daughter of Jeffery Juneau and Mary Ann Rico.   They have a son and a daughter.
  1. Dylan Ducote born November 4, 1997 at Rapides Woman & Children's Hospital in Alexandria, Louisiana.
  2. Jenna Mitchelle Ducote born March 14, 2001 at the Womans and Childrens Hospital in Lafayette, LA.
